Room 4 - Middle School 8

Teacher: Saul Rodriguez

Hello, my name is Saúl Rodriguez, and I am an educator based in Lowell, Massachusetts. Inspired by my own teachers, I'm dedicated to positively influencing young people and helping them reach their full potential. Currently, I teach 8th grade at Laura Lee Therapeutic School, where we prioritize students' emotional and social well-being alongside academics. This holistic approach empowers students to overcome challenges and develop resilience.

I believe humor is essential in creating an engaging learning atmosphere, making education fun and interactive. I explore innovative strategies to captivate my students, often incorporating puzzles and dance breaks. My philosophy is simple: “If we expect students to be winners, they will rise to the occasion!” — Jaime Escalante. I am committed to supporting my community and ensuring that joy remains a part of the learning experience.

Paraprofessional:  Kate Gillis

Hello, my name is Kate (Mrs. G. to the students), and I am a paraprofessional at the Laura Lee Therapeutic School. Though I come from a family of teachers, this is my first year in a school system. I started as a substitute teacher in the Wilmington School District where I found my passion for teaching. I believe that learning doesn’t have a one size fits all. Learning can only come when we feel safe and grounded. That is why teaching at the Laura Lee, to me, is so important and empowering.

I believe that a holistic approach helps students learn, not only math and English, but how to be a healthy and productive member of society. Finding passion through social connection, laughter, and a fun, safe environment brings success. To paraphrase William Butler Yeats, education should not be about checking off all the boxes, but rather about lighting a fire of lifelong learning. I am committed to being a part of the student experience and assisting with the social emotional as well as academic learning experience.
